The Academy of Principals (Singapore) is organising its 11th Global Educational Leadership Conference on the theme

“Rethinking Fundamentals, Transforming Schools”
7 September 2020

Much has been said about the uncertainty of the future and how we need to innovate in order to meet the challenges ahead. In the midst of transition and driving growth, there is a need to revisit fundamentals to ensure that what we initiate stems from a firm foundation.

A heritage tree grows to its maximum height because it has a strong root system underground. The fundamentals in educational leadership and school systems must be well-established before we can strive for further growth.

The 11th Global Educational Leadership Conference calls for a return to the roots of education, leadership and learning. Thinkers and influencers in the field and beyond will share their insights on how our current outlook affects the basics and principles in education. When we are well-rooted in the fundamentals we can build to last. Only then can true transformation take place.

Plenary sessions and workshops will focus on rethinking fundamentals in key areas:

  • School Leadership – in the throes of leadership and its demands, have we lost sight of what it means to be a leader? Revisit leadership principles and reflect on what it means to lead. In today’s complex world, should the code of leadership be altered?
  • Professional Development – what constitutes personal growth and development in school leaders? Explore areas in adult learning, technology and networks.
  • Learning – has learning changed and how do we bring about meaningful learning in our classrooms in this day and age? Relook at the fundamentals of learning and how it takes place in today’s interconnected environment.
  • School models – are traditional school models still relevant today? How can school models be adapted to meet the changing learning styles of today’s generation?
  • Gain new perspectives and insights from leaders in the field while collaborating with the fraternity. Rethinking fundamentals can bring about transformation in schools. Find out how.
